Blog Influence in Politics

Politics lovers favor to express their views through Political Blog. Not only politics lovers but Political parties also take the help of Political Blog for their publicity. Political Blog first got people’s attention when two insurgent political candidates in 2003 – Howard Dean and Wesley Clark – gained political buzz among bloggers, before the establishment media as candidate took them seriously.

Before 2004 Presidential election, it has been noticed that political web sites are popping up faster than political leaflets rolling off the press. Not only that, exit poll speculation and public’s view on blog plays a great role in election results. So with the huge rush of political blog before election, it seems that it turns computer into a political machine.

There are some popular political sites which are fulfilling political lover’s interest according to their prospect. Here are some of them:

FREE REPUBLIC – Free Republic site arranges place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web.
INSTAPUNDIT – This site generally gives a commentary on politics.
BAGHDAD BURNING – A Blog site, which talks about war, politics and occupation in Iraq.
DAILY KOS – This site specially analyses politics and other daily rants on the state of the nation. Political consultant Markos Moulitsas Zungia runs this site and according to their report they have weekly traffic of over 1,000,000.

A question can arise why politicians are taking the help of blogs; there are some reasons, which are as follows:

  1. They use it to get closer to the people. With the help of Blog a politician leaves his/her comment open on the Blog. Any body can read the Blog, give comment or can post a note on it.
  2. Since, political blogs helps the politician to know the taste of people and ideas easily & quickly, they can change their course of campaign or poicies according to people’s choice.
  3. A political party can asks for donation to the party member through blogs, which is helpful for them in raising fund for their party and campaign. The Daily Kos' readers have donated almost $500,000 to Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign, various other Democratic candidates and the Democratic National Committee.
  4. Political Blog give an opportunity to start discussion and participation of youth in politics, which helps the parties to get more mass support.

To be updated in political matters and to keep an association or coordination with the politicians, use of political blogs is pretty clear now.
