Similarities and Difference between Blog and Website

Website and Blog, the two main attractive factor of Internet, are more often takes the headlines of any discussion. So people try to find similarities and differences between them. Here I would first clear about the common factors between Blog and Website.

  • Blog and website, both are methods of publishing information and other data online.

  • Blog and website both can be started and kept by any user who is interested in keeping them.

  • Both have there own URLs and anyone who has Internet connection can access them.

Inspite of the above-mentioned similarities between Blog and website, there are many differences too between them. These are as follows:

  • Blog is more dynamic in operation than website.

  • Blogs are updated regularly with post and entries that usually contain date/time stamps. Whereas websites are mostly designed to be static. There is no need to update website regularly (unless it is the nature of the business). If at anytime websites are updated, it updates with pages rather than post or entries.

  • There are many blog hosting sites available on the net, which provides ease to online publishing. If a blog user has already created blog set up, then in such cases user is required to just write an entry, post it and click the “Publish this Entry” button, and the blog will be thoroughly updated. A blogger need not have an option to know HTML and FTP for creating or publishing blog. This is not possible with websites, as if a user wants to publish a website, he/she must have some knowledge of HTML and FTP.

  • Community also differs on account of websites and blogs. Websites maintain community based tools such as message boards and guest books, where as Blogs encourages community building much more than websites, with tools like comments functions such as track backs, tag boards and various other features.
